Introduction
Originating from South America, specifically the region of Guyana, Myriophyllum sp. 'Guyana' is a beautifully delicate and exceptionally compact stem plant. It is widely celebrated among aquascapers for its bright, light green, needle-like foliage that forms dense, bushy thickets. Its miniature size makes it a standout choice compared to other milfoils.
Growth and Care
This plant is considered a medium-difficulty species. While it can survive in lower-tech setups, it truly thrives and maintains its signature compact, creeping growth habit when provided with medium to high lighting and supplemental CO2 injection. Without adequate light, the internodes may stretch, losing the dense appearance that makes it so desirable.
Aquascaping Application
Due to its moderate height and dense branching, Myriophyllum sp. 'Guyana' is perfect for the middleground of larger tanks or even the background of nano aquariums. Regular trimming encourages lateral shoots, quickly resulting in a lush, vibrant green bush that provides excellent contrast against red plants or dark hardscape materials.
