Introduction to Ludwigia glandulosa
Ludwigia glandulosa is a beautiful and distinct stem plant native to the wetlands of North America. It is renowned in the aquascaping hobby for its stunning, deep red to purple foliage when grown under optimal conditions.
Care and Maintenance
To achieve the vibrant wine-red colors characteristic of this species, intense lighting and supplemental CO2 injection are highly recommended. Unlike many other Ludwigia species, it has a moderate to slow growth rate and tends to grow straight up, making it easier to manage in the background or midground of a planted aquarium. Without sufficient light, the lower leaves may drop off and the plant will revert to a greener hue.
Aquascaping Application
Because of its striking coloration and upright growth habit, Ludwigia glandulosa serves as an excellent focal point. Planting it in groups creates a visually impactful contrast against light green background or foreground plants. Regular pruning will encourage bushier growth and lateral shoots, allowing you to propagate the plant easily from cuttings.
