Introduction
Leptodictyum riparium, widely recognized in the hobby as Stringy Moss, is a cosmopolitan moss species admired for its unique vertical growth pattern. Unlike many creeping mosses, it tends to reach upwards towards the light, creating stunning, string-like columns of vibrant green foliage that add a wild, natural feel to any aquascape.

Aquascaping Application
This moss is highly versatile and is best utilized when attached to hardscape materials such as driftwood, roots, or stones. Because of its upward growth trajectory, it is perfect for creating the illusion of tall aquatic grass or miniature forests within the aquarium. Its dense, fine structure also serves as an excellent spawning medium and a safe refuge for breeding fish and dwarf shrimp.
Care and Maintenance
Stringy Moss is exceptionally undemanding and thrives in a wide range of water parameters and temperatures. It requires only low light and does not necessitate supplemental CO2 injection, making it an ideal candidate for beginner aquarists and low-tech setups alike. Regular trimming with aquascaping scissors is recommended to maintain a dense appearance and to prevent the lower portions of the moss pad from becoming shaded and dying off.
