Introduction to Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya'
Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya' is a beautiful and highly adaptable aquatic plant originating from the Mi Oya river in Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its slightly hammered leaves that exhibit a stunning mix of red, brown, and green hues, depending on the lighting and nutrient conditions.
Care and Maintenance
This variety of Cryptocoryne is exceptionally hardy and forgiving, making it an ideal choice for beginner aquarists. It tolerates hard water well and does not require intense lighting or CO2 injection to survive, though providing these will encourage faster growth and more vibrant colors.
Aquascaping Application
With a typical height of 15-30 cm, 'Mi Oya' is best placed in the middleground of the aquarium. Its extensive root system benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate. Like many Crypts, it may experience "Crypt melt" when introduced to a new environment, but it will quickly bounce back with new, adapted growth.
