Bacopa salzmannii

Description

Bacopa salzmannii "Purple" is a highly desirable addition to the planted aquarium hobby. While its growth structure resembles classic Bacopa species, this unique variant boasts spectacular coloration ranging from deep red to vibrant purple when provided with intense lighting. The thick stems and fleshy leaves grow upright, creating strong vertical lines in the aquascape.

Cultivation and Care

To achieve the signature dark coloration, high light intensity and a nutrient-rich substrate are essential. CO2 supplementation significantly boosts growth speed and color saturation. In lower light conditions, the plant may revert to a greenish-bronze appearance. It propagates easily through cuttings; simply snip the top portion and replant it into the substrate to encourage a bushier appearance.

Aquascaping Application

This plant is best utilized in the middleground or background of an aquascape. Its striking color provides a dramatic focal point or a beautiful contrast when planted alongside bright light green plants. Regular trimming helps maintain a compact, bushy shape and prevents the lower portions from being shaded out.
