Anubias gracilis (Slender Anubias)

Description

Anubias gracilis is an elegant and distinct species from West Africa, characterized by its triangular, spade-like leaves that sit atop long, graceful stems. It is a highly robust plant that can adapt to a variety of aquarium conditions, making it an excellent choice for beginners.

Planting and Care

Like other Anubias species, it grows from a rhizome which must not be buried in the substrate, as this will cause it to rot. It is best attached to rocks or driftwood using thread or aquatic glue. It requires very little light and does not need supplemental CO2, though it will benefit from basic fertilization.

Aquascaping Application

With its unique leaf shape and slightly larger size compared to smaller variants, Anubias gracilis stands out beautifully in the midground or background of an aquascape. Its hardy, tough leaves are also highly resistant to herbivorous fish, making it highly suitable for cichlid and goldfish tanks.
