Description

Cabomba aquatica is a visually striking aquatic stem plant native to the slow-moving waters of South America. It is characterized by its exceptionally fine, fan-shaped leaves that create a soft, feathery texture in the planted aquarium. Under optimal conditions, it forms dense, brilliant green stands that provide excellent refuge for fish and fry.
Care Requirements
This species is considered advanced due to its strict requirements for intense lighting and supplemental CO2 injection. Without adequate light, the lower portions of the stems will quickly deteriorate, become leggy, and drop their leaves. Nutrient-rich water and a comprehensive fertilization routine are also essential to support its very fast growth rate and maintain its vibrant green coloration.
Aquascaping Application
Due to its rapid vertical growth and impressive size, Cabomba aquatica is best utilized as a background plant in medium to large aquariums. Regular trimming is necessary to prevent it from reaching the surface too quickly and shading out other plants. Trimming also encourages bushy, lateral growth. Its delicate, needle-like texture contrasts beautifully when placed behind broad-leaved species or dark hardscape materials.
