Introduction
Cryptocoryne beckettii 'Petchii' is a beautiful, small variety of Cryptocoryne originating from Sri Lanka. It is highly valued in the aquascaping hobby for its unique coloration and relatively compact size, making it a versatile choice for various tank layouts.
Appearance and Growth
This rosette plant features distinctive, slightly fluted leaf margins. The leaves typically display a dark, olive-green color on the upper surface, while the undersides often reveal striking reddish-violet or brownish hues, as seen in the prominent stem coloration. It generally reaches a modest height of 10-15 cm, making it an excellent choice for adding depth to the foreground or middleground.
Care and Maintenance
Like many Cryptocoryne species, 'Petchii' is undemanding and adapts well to a wide variety of water parameters. It thrives in low to medium lighting and does not strictly require supplemental CO2 injection, though its growth density and coloration will noticeably benefit from it. Because it establishes a strong, extensive root system, providing a nutrient-rich substrate is highly recommended to ensure long-term health and vitality.
