Taxonomy and Habitat
Neocaridina shrimp belong to the family Atyidae. In the wild, they inhabit streams, rivers, and ponds with dense vegetation and leaf litter. These environments provide essential hiding spots and surfaces for biofilm growth, which serves as a primary food source for the shrimp.

Feeding and Nutrition
These shrimp are omnivorous scavengers. They graze constantly on biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter. In a home aquarium, their diet should be supplemented with high-quality sinking shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-rich treats to ensure optimal health and coloration.
Tank Mates and Compatibility
Due to their small size, Neocaridina are best kept in species-only tanks or with very small, peaceful fish like nano rasboras. Larger or aggressive fish will likely view them as prey. Snails and other peaceful invertebrates make excellent tank mates.
Molting and Breeding
Molting is a critical process where shrimp shed their exoskeleton to grow. Stable water parameters are vital during this time. Breeding is relatively straightforward in established aquariums; females carry eggs under their abdomen until they hatch into miniature versions of the adults, requiring no specialized larval stage.
