Introduction
Bucephalandra sordidula 'Blue' is a highly sought-after epiphytic plant native to the fast-flowing rivers and streams of Borneo, Asia. It is renowned for its stunningly dark, dense foliage that occasionally exhibits a beautiful bluish tint under the right lighting conditions. Like other Bucephalandra species, it is extremely robust and adaptable.
Planting and Care
As a rhizomatous epiphyte, Bucephalandra sordidula 'Blue' should never be planted directly into the substrate, as burying the rhizome will cause it to rot. Instead, it thrives when attached to hardscape elements such as rocks or driftwood using thread, plant glue, or by carefully wedging it into crevices. It is a slow grower that requires minimal maintenance, making it perfect for both beginners and advanced aquascapers.
Optimal Conditions
This resilient plant does well in low to medium light and does not strictly require CO2 injection, though the addition of CO2 and appropriate fertilization will encourage denser growth and enhance its unique coloration. Its slow growth rate means it is relatively susceptible to algae if lighting is too intense, so placing it in shaded areas of the aquarium is often beneficial.
