Introduction
Eriocaulon sp. 'Vietnam' is a relatively new and highly desirable addition to the planted aquarium hobby. Hailing from the wetlands of Vietnam, it stands out from other Eriocaulon species due to its surprisingly forgiving nature. While most plants in this genus require extremely soft water and intense maintenance, the 'Vietnam' variant adapts well to a broader range of conditions, making the beautiful, hedgehog-like grassy aesthetic accessible to more hobbyists.
Cultivation and Care
Though considered easier than its relatives, Eriocaulon sp. 'Vietnam' still flourishes best under medium to high lighting and with the addition of CO2 injection. A nutrient-rich substrate is highly recommended, as it develops a robust root system typical of rosette plants. Regular fertilization will ensure its leaves remain a vibrant, lush green. It grows at a moderate pace, slowly splitting at the base to form dense, attractive clusters over time.
Aquascaping Application
With a typical height of 5 to 15 cm, this plant is an excellent choice for the middleground or background in smaller nano tanks, and a striking foreground or midground accent in larger setups. Its fine, arching leaves provide a beautiful textural contrast when placed against broad-leafed plants or dark hardscape materials like lava rock and driftwood. It is often used to create a focal point or a soft, grassy transition zone within an aquascape.
